New UEFA rules for Euro 2024

UEFA have amplified their rules for yellow and red cards for this summer’s Euros in Germany, stating that any player who surrounds the referee will be given a yellow card.

As the captains of each team will now only be allowed to approach the officials and discuss the decision.

How many games will a player miss if they pick up a yellow card at Euro 2024?

Players who pick two yellow cards before the end of the quarter-final stage will have to serve a one match ban.

With the addition of missing another game if they collect four yellow cards before the quarter-final stage arrives.

This means that if a player picks up two yellow cards across the entirety of the group-stage, round of 16 and quarter-finals they will be suspended for the semi-finals if their team makes it to the latter stage of the tournament.

Yellow cards however will be wiped after the end of the quarter-finals, meaning no player will miss be forced to miss the final through yellow card accumulations.

The only way they would miss the final would be if they were handed a red card in the semi-finals.

If a player receives a red card at any stage of Euro 2024 they will automatically have to serve a one-match ban.

That being said, the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body has the authority to increase the length of a player’s suspension if they think the offence deems more action than a one-game ban.

If the referee shows a red card to a player in the final, the ban will be carried over to the team’s next competitive match.
