Minnesota Twins backstop Christian Vazquez probably didn’t think he’d be in harm’s way in the on-deck circle Wednesday. That is, until he was hit by a rogue foul ball.

The catcher was hit on the head by a foul ball as he warmed up ahead of his at-bat during the Twins’ game against the Detroit Tigers.

During teammate Donovan Solano’s third-inning at-bat, Vazquez was awaiting his turn at the plate when the ball struck him on the helmet, narrowly missing his face.

Vazquez was able to duck just in time to avoid any real serious injury with the ball thankfully just catching the brim of his helmet.

He was able to laugh it off, walking away from the on-deck circle seemingly without any injury.

Vazquez is surely used to having foul ball hurtling towards him as a catcher, but normally when he’s wrapped up in all his safety equipment.

With a serious injury averted, Vazquez stayed in the game and stepped up for his at-bat but went on to fly out to right field.

At the end of the third inning, the Twins were leading 4-3, however, the Tigers ultimately rallied to a 8-7 win.

Home runs from Spencer Torkelson and Riley Greene helped the Tigers roar back in the third after going 4-0 down in the second.

Torkelson stepped up again in the seventh as back-to-back homers from him and Kerry Carpenter highlighted a four-run inning for Detroit, which gave it a 7-4 lead.

The Twins tried to bounce back in the ninth but their rally fell short with three runs, seeing the game end in an 8-7 loss.
