Rams’ Cooper Kupp Injured in Practice, Leaves Early

Cooper Kupp left practice early on Tuesday night with an apparent leg injury, according to the Associated Press, and Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay was unsure of the star’s status.

McVay had few details on what happened other than that Kupp appeared to pull up during a route.

“He looked like he came up a little bit in a red zone route,” McVay said, according to The Athletic’s Jourdan Rodrigue. “I just know they told me he was out for practice.”

Losing Kupp for any period of time would be a blow for the Rams, and the team is well aware that it’s better with him on the field — which Los Angeles saw first hand last season.

Kupp missed the final eight games of the 2022 season due to a high ankle sprain as the Rams limped to a 5-12 record, one year removed from their Super Bowl win.

The wide receiver had 75 receptions for 812 yards and six touchdowns in the nine games he did play in 2022.

The year prior, Kupp led the league in catches (145), yards receiving (1,947) and touchdowns (16).

“Obviously we’re much better when he’s here, and we hope he’s going to be OK,” McVay said, the Associated Press reported. “If he’s not, we’ll see what happens, but the practice had to go on.”

Kupp is expected to be an invaluable piece for the Rams this season, and he has a strong connection with quarterback Matthew Stafford.

The Rams signal-caller had little insight into what had happened Kupp during practice either.

“I just want to know what’s going on,” Stafford told reporters Tuesday. “That’s the main thing, and I’ll figure that out at some point.

“But I trust our guys, and whatever is going on, I know he’ll do everything he can to work through whatever is going on and be back out here whenever it’s the right time.”
