Like many high school athletes, Viera High golfer Hannah Hall gained a passion for the sport after being around golf at a young age.

“My dad and my grandpa played golf and they started taking me to the range. I just got interested through family,” Hall said. “I think I touched a club when I was 2 and then my first tournament started when I was 8.”

Now years later as a sophomore, Hall has already made a name for herself as one of the top golfers in the area.

As a freshman she had a dominant year and was named FLORIDA TODAY All-Space Coast Girls Golfer of the Year for the second year in a row. Her dominance throughout the year helped her lead the Hawks to the state tournament where Hall placed eighth individually in the field of 96 and shot 75, which was the lowest score among freshmen at the state match.

Hall also won the District 8-3A individual title and tied for fifth place at the Region 2-3A match before qualifying for the state tournament.

Viera’s Hannah Hall hits her tee shot on the 14th hole during the girls golf District 8-3A Championship on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 on the Dunes Course at Sandridge Golf Club in Vero Beach.

This year, Hall has picked up right where she left off last season and continued to place herself at the top of meets. At an 18-hole event in St. Cloud with five other schools, Hall shot 70 and finished as a medalist. In two local meets earlier this season against Eau Gallie and Holy Trinity, Hall finished at the top when she shot 32 and 34, respectively.

One reason Hall has appeared to be in rhythm early in the season could be because she works on her craft even when the high school season wraps up. Summer break is anything but a break.

“The summer is definitely where I spend most of my time golfing versus the school year because I have tournament after tournament in the summer,” Hall said. “I feel like just putting in a lot of work during the summer helps going into the high school season.”

Hall’s hard work throughout the year does not go unnoticed by those around her. Viera girls’ golf coach Carl Guettler said Hall is the perfect example of someone who is committed to the game of golf.

“By far the most dedicated, the most sweet, the nicest, she’s just the complete package and she’s all-around,” Guettler said. “She is just destroying fields every time she comes out.”

On Sept. 18, Hall and her fellow Hawks tested themselves when they competed against several top schools at the Central Florida Tournament of Champions held at Legacy Club at Alaqua Lakes. With par set at 72, Hall shot 77.

This season, Hall and her teammates have the goal of going back to the state tournament yet again this year. Hall’s plan to get there is not by planning for any particular opponent, but is to instead put that focus on her own game.

“I think just trying to give myself goals of playing myself and trying to beat myself,” Hall said. “Not focusing on what anyone else is doing has helped me, so just trying to keep improving on what I struggle with and practicing my flaws.”
