Sep. 30—The West Caldwell girls tennis team lost to Lincolnton 8-1 on Tuesday in Lenoir.

The Lady Wolves from Lincolnton won every match except the No. 1 singles match as West Caldwell’s No. 1 seed Gracie Parson took down Lincolnton’s top-seed Emily Morris, 6-1, 6-1.

Second-seeded Kendra Bynum defeated West Caldwell’s Ava Kelly 6-0, 6-0, and the No. 3 seed match went to Lincolnton senior Kyndal Raimey as she bested senior Amilya Dean 6-1, 6-1.

Lincolnton’s No. 4 seed, senior Breanna Martinez, stopped West Caldwell junior Connie Hendrix 6-2, 6-1.

In the No. 5 seed match, Wolves junior Estrella Hernandez won 6-1, 6-0 against Warriors freshman Yasmin Ibarro.

Sixth-seeded junior Kaylee Orias defeated sophomore Helen Abarado 6-0, 6-1 to wrap up singles play in favor of the Wolves 5-1.

Lincolnton swept doubles play, with Morris and Bynum winning 8-1 against Parsons and Kelly in the No. 1 doubles match.

In the No. 2 doubles match, Martinez and Raimey stopped Dean and Ibarra 8-3, while Hernandez and Orias won 8-2 against Connie Hendrix and Helen Abarado in the No. 3 doubles match.

“I thought we played okay. They are just a better team,” West Caldwell head coach Michael Taladay said.

The Warriors’ No. 1 seed, Parsons, picked up her third win of the season, and Parsons said practice has helped her improve her game.

“I’ve been working with my instructor on volleys at the next and staying patient, believing I could do it,” Parsons said.

Taladay also said Parsons has worked to make her game stronger.

“Gracie was playing well and consistently, as well as being aggressive on short balls,” Taladay said.

The Lady Warriors will return home to host Bandys on Tuesday before entertaining East Burke on Thursday.
