The St. Charles and Thomas Worthington boys golf teams may not have an ace in the hole in the Division I postseason, but they have golfers who aced the same hole.

In a practice round Thursday at Worthington Hills, St. Charles junior Jonas Borland and Thomas Worthington senior Will Reis made back-to-back holes-in-one on the 188-yard, par-3 No. 12 hole.

It was the third career hole-in-one for Borland, who made this one with a 6-iron. He recorded his other two at the Golf Center at SportsOhio last year and Tartan Fields in 2020.

“I struck it really well and it one-hopped and started to roll towards the pin,” Borland said. “I thought it had a really good chance and it went in. We just started going crazy. We were running around. Everyone in the group was so excited. We thought there’s no way anyone does it again and then Will steps up second and puts it in and we were in just absolute disbelief.

“They’re all special, but this one has to be probably the coolest one I’ve had considering the odds of making back-to-back shots.”

It was the first hole-in-one for Reis, who used a 5-iron.

“I never would have thought I would make one right after,” Reis said. “It was crazy. It was fun to celebrate with my friends there.”

Thomas sophomore Jack Marsh nearly made it three in a row, but his drive “hit the cup and it lipped out,” Reis said.

Thomas junior Jack Flores rounded out the foursome.

According to the National Hole-in-One Registry, the odds of two players from a foursome acing the same hole are 17 million to 1.

All four golfers will compete in sectionals this week. St. Charles is seeded fifth in the Central District and will play in the Darby Creek sectional Tuesday, while sixth-seeded Thomas will compete in the EagleSticks sectional Wednesday.

“This definitely gives me a little confidence and a little momentum going into sectional,” Reis said.

The top three teams and top three individuals not on qualifying teams from each of the four Division I sectionals advance to district Oct. 10 at Apple Valley.
