NYSPHSAA Team State Semifinals: Scarsdale and Bronxville Make Significant Progress

Section 1 team tennis continued their state dominance, winning both the Division 1 and Division 2 regional championships on Monday afternoon.

In the Division 2 tournament, Bronxville defeated Section 9’s Spackenkill 4-1 at the New Rochelle Racquet Club to win the school’s first-ever regional title.

Third singles player Hannah Shammas, and the doubles teams of Rose Wooler/Astrid Pulkkinen and Isabel Haller/Madeleine Brandes got early wins to seal the title.

In the Division 1 tournament at Westchester Tennis Center in Port Chester, Scarsdale won its third-straight regional title, defeating Section 4’s Ithaca 7-0.

The Raiders were led by NYSPHSAA doubles silver medalists and current Section 1 doubles champion Emma Ha and Kay Cottrell.

Both teams advance to Friday’s NYSPHSAA championships at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens.

The Division 2 semifinals start at 7:30 a.m., the Division 1 semifinals start at 10 a.m. The finals will follow in the afternoon.
