Lamine Yamal has reached an agreement to sign a new long-term contract at Barcelona, according to reports in Spain.

The 17-year-old’s current deal at Camp Nou is due to expire in 2026 and after several months of negotiations, he has agreed to sign fresh terms with Hansi Flick’s side.

Barcelona are determined to keep Yamal as they understandably view him as an indispensable member of their first-team squad and they are set to enjoy his talent for years to come, despite rumoured interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City.

Yamal, who has scored 15 goals and provided 22 assists in 51 appearances across all competitions so far this season, is currently the second-most valuable player in world football – with an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €173.2 million.

News of Yamal’s imminent new contract follows Barcelona’s Champions League semi-final exit to Inter Milan in midweek.

Simone Inzaghi’s side ran out 7-6 winners on aggregate in one of the best European knockout ties in history, and Alessandro Bastoni was keen to heap praise on Yamal following the teenager’s immense performances across the tie.

Following the first-leg, Bastoni told reporters: “He is probably the best player I’ve ever come up against.

“I’ve crossed paths with him at the Euros already, but now he’s risen to an even more impressive level. In terms of his age and ability to create danger, he’s already one of the best players around. If not the best.”

He then posted on Instagram after the second-leg: “Respect to our opponents – they showed incredible strength and heart. And special mention to a terrifyingly good kid: Lamine Yamal, you’re a monster.”
