David Miller has been instrumental for the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), often turning the tide of matches with his powerful hitting in the death overs. His consistent performances have frequently put his team in winning positions, underscoring his value as a dependable finisher.

David Miller’s crucial role for South Africa

Similarly, for South Africa, Miller’s experience and composure under pressure have been invaluable. He has played numerous match-winning innings, guiding his team to victory with his calm presence and big-hitting capabilities. His contributions have been significant in T20 Internationals and One-Day Internationals, where the finisher’s role is crucial to a team’s success.

Miller eyes T20 World Cup 2024

Miller will again play a crucial role as a finisher for South Africa in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, scheduled to be held in the West Indies and the United States of America (USA) in June. South Africa will start their campaign against Sri Lanka on June 3. However, before the tournament, he identified a bowler who he believes will pose a significant threat not only to him but to every batter participating in the global event.

In an interview with PTI, Miller picked India‘s premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah as a significant challenge for all teams participating in the tournament. He remarked that Bumrah is currently in excellent form and has maintained his status as a world-class bowler for several years.

“I think Bumrah is bowling well at the moment. And he has been a world-class bowler for many years. He’s a threat to me, as well as every other batter in the World Cup,” Miller said.

Form and IPL 2024 performance

Bumrah has not played any T20I match for India since their clash against Ireland in August 2023, but his form in IPL 2024 has only bolstered his promise for the World Cup. Despite the Mumbai Indians (MI) struggling in the current season, Bumrah has been in formidable form with the ball, taking 20 wickets in his 13 matches and currently holding the Purple Cap. His performance is a positive sign for India and their plans for the highly-anticipated World Cup.

Pace attack for the World Cup

The BCCI announced India’s World Cup squad on in April last, revealing that Bumrah would lead the side’s pace attack, which also includes Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh. Since making his debut for India in January 2016, Bumrah has emerged as the leading pace option across all three formats. He has taken a total of 74 wickets in his 62 T20I matches and has often played decisive roles for India with the ball.
