Report: IPL 2024 Scheduled to Commence on March 22, with Final Match on May 26

As the cricketing community eagerly awaits the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, the anticipation surrounding the tournament is palpable. According to various reports, the much-anticipated cricketing extravaganza is expected to kick off following the conclusion of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024. Cricket enthusiasts worldwide are gearing up for another thrilling season of intense competition, star-studded line-ups, and unforgettable moments that have become synonymous with the cash-rich League.

IPL 2024 to bowl out on March 22

According to a report by Cricbuzz, the 17th edition of IPL is poised to kick off on March 22, with the tournament running until May 26. This schedule aligns with the conclusion of WPL 2024, which is set to finish on March 17. Notably, the T20 World Cup 2024 is scheduled to commence just five days after the IPL’s conclusion, beginning in the West Indies and USA on May 31.

However, India‘s inaugural match in the World Cup is slated for June 5, giving players a much needed nine-day break. The tentative schedule, discussed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) with stakeholders, outlines the WPL’s second season from February 22 to March 17. The official announcement of these dates is expected shortly.

IPL 2024 auction: The historic bidding war

The IPL auction 2024 season unfolded on December 19, 2023, at the Coca Cola Arena in Dubai, brutally shattering previous held bidding records, as cricketers attracted unprecedented prices. Mitchell Starc emerged as the highest-paid player in IPL history, securing a massive deal with the Kolkata Knight Riders for INR 24.75 crores.

Following closely, Australian captain Pat Cummins fetched a significant bid of INR 20.50 crores from the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), establishing himself as the second-highest-paid cricketer in the esteemed League.
