Sri Lanka batted first and set a target of 275 runs, which India chased down in 48.2 overs. Dhoni finished the match in style, hitting a six for the winning runs. This marked India’s last World Cup triumph thirteen years ago today.

The 2011 final saw several players making crucial contributions. Zaheer Khan and Yuvraj, despite a shaky start to India’s batting innings, bounced back to claim two wickets each with their bowling. Gautam Gambhir displayed exceptional responsibility, building partnerships of 83 runs with Virat Kohli and 109 runs with Dhoni. However, he was unfortunate to be dismissed just three runs short of a well-deserved century. Dhoni, on the other hand, remained unbeaten on 91 runs, sealing the victory with a final six.
