The eagerly awaited T20 World Cup 2024 is scheduled to kick off next month in USA and West Indies. India made history by clinching the T20 World Cup title for the first time in 2007 under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. Since that momentous victory, the Men in Blue have been relentlessly pursuing another triumph in this prestigious tournament. Notably, India’s journey in the tournament will begin with a match against Ireland on June 5.

A total of 20 teams will compete for the coveted Cup, divided into four groups. From these groups, the top two teams will progress to the Super Eight stage. Subsequently, the Super Eight teams will be further divided into two groups, with the top two from each group advancing to the semifinals. As the tournament draws closer, numerous former cricketers and experts have shared their predictions for the semifinalists of this global event. In a video posted by Star Sports, cricket experts revealed their teams for the top four spots for the grandest stage of T20 cricket. Among them was India’s legendary cricketer Gavaskar. While talking in the video, the 74-year-old picked India, Australia, England and West Indies as the semifinalists.

“For the World Cup, I think the teams which will qualify for the Semifinals will be India, Australia, England and West Indies,” Gavaskar said.

Performance of these 4 teams in the previous editions of the tournament

England, holding the title twice, shares the honour with West Indies as the most successful teams in the prestigious event. On the other hand, India and Australia have each claimed victory once. With their line-up of powerful hitters and formidable bowlers, clashes between these teams promise excitement and entertainment for cricket enthusiasts. Notably, among them, only India and England are the teams that made it to the semifinals in the last T20 World Cup, which was held in Australia in 2022.
