Arsenal are eager to secure Benjamin Sesko this summer, with rivals indicating that the Gunners are leading contenders to sign the RB Leipzig star.

Arsenal are reportedly the favourites to sign RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko this summer.

Mikel Arteta’s side are keen to strengthen in attack in the off-season with Gabriel Jesus having struggled for form and fitness in recent times, while Eddie Nketiah has fallen out of favour, with Kai Havertz the Spaniard’s preferred option up-front.

The Gunners have been touted with a move for several strikers, including Ivan Toney, Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres and Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee.

However, according to The Telegraph, Arsenal have a particularly strong interest in Sesko and are considering a move for the Slovenian.

The 20-year-old has been linked with several major clubs across Europe in recent months including Man United, Chelsea and AC Milan, but the report adds that rivals for his signature believe the Gunners are in pole position for the 6ft 5ins striker.

Sesko joined Leipzig last summer after four years with their sister club Red Bull Salzburg, where he netted 29 times in 79 games.

The Slovenian – who also has 11 goals in 28 games for his country – has enjoyed an impressive debut season in Germany, scoring 17 times in all competitions.

It was previously reported that he had a release clause of £43million, but Sky Germany claimed this has risen due to his excellent form, with it believed to now be as high as £64m.

Sesko would represent a long-term addition for the Gunners given his age and potential, while speculation over a potential move to the Emirates has only increased in recent weeks.

The forward’s agent, Elvis Basanovic, was at Arsenal’s clashes with Chelsea and United over the past month, although the report goes onto add this is not a completely unusual situation.

Meanwhile, speaking back in October, Sesko also dropped a small hint about a potential move to England in the future.

‘I am not thinking about where I want to go next,’ he said. ‘I don’t have a favourite club to be. It’s important to make the right decision from where I have been. I just want to focus on here and let’s see what happens.

‘It’s hard to say what will happen, you know? I could be great or not that great!

‘Of course, it would be nice to play there [in the Premier League] but first of all let’s focus on right now.’

Leipzig have enjoyed a solid season in the Bundesliga, with Sesko’s side guaranteed a Champions League spot ahead of their final league game against Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.

Sesko will then head off to Euro 2024, with Slovenia set to compete in the tournament for the first time since 2000.
