Bayer Leverkusen are on the cusp of making yet more history in what has been an extraordinary season for the Bundesliga club.

Xabi Alonso’s side defeated Roma 2-0 at the Stadio Olimpico on Thursday to move within touching distance of the Europa League final.

The victory marked 47 games since the club last tasted defeat in all competitions, dating back to a 3-0 loss to Bochum on the final day of the 2022-23 season.

Having already been crowned Bundesliga champions for the first time in their history, Leverkusen take on European hopefuls Frankfurt on Sunday.

Should they maintain their undefeated record this weekend, the second leg against Roma would set the stage for a potential history-making clash.

Rangers’ legendary Class of 92 sit fifth on the all-time standings, having won a domestic treble during a 44-game unbeaten streak and reached the semi-finals of the European Cup.

But an even more recent run from a British side features within the top ten.

Welsh club The New Saints embarked on a 41-game run without tasting defeat, even reaching the final of the Scottish Challenge Cup as a guest team before losing 2-1 to Airdrieonians last month.
