Bruno Guimaraes has slammed a Newcastle fan account for having ‘short, stupid memories’ following their narrow 1-0 defeat to Manchester City.

Newcastle were beaten by the reigning Premier League champions at the Etihad stadium on Saturday, with Julian Alvarez’s goal proving the difference between the sides.

Guimaraes admitted post-match that the team can do ‘much better’ following the defeat.

The Brazilian midfielder, however, was angered by a post on social media by Newcastle fan account NUFC360.

The account asked its near 139,000 followers: ‘Is it too early in the season to start focusing blame onto individual players? Was there an overreaction to the loss to Man City?’

A graphic featuring Guimaraes, Joelinton, Miguel Almiron and Dan Burn was posted alongside the tweet.

Guimaraes hit back at the post, highlighting the transformation at the club over the past 18 months.

Newcastle had been battling against relegation from the Premier League when he joined the club from Lyon in a £30million deal in January 2022.

Eddie Howe’s side were transformed last season with Newcastle securing a top four finish to secure Champions League qualification.

‘Is this serious? We are in Champions League football, we lost against maybe one of the best teams in the world and we have a big win and lost one game,’ Guimaraes posted in a now deleted tweet.

‘Support in the best moment is easy. Short, stupid memories you all have.

‘Look what we have done for the team in one year and a half.’

Guimaraes’ post prompted an apology from the NUFC360 fan account.

‘We are with you Bruno Guimaraes, this post was a way to try and focus on the craziness of those trying to find players to blame after two games,’ the account replied.

‘I’m sorry if this was not expressed on that manner. NUFC360 is behind all of our players.

The fan account also claimed that the four players included on the image had been criticised by fans on mentioned across social media since the loss to Man City.

Newcastle had opened the season in stunning fashion by thrashing Aston Villa 5-1 at home.

Howe’s side will look to bounce back from the Man City defeat when they host Liverpool on Saturday.
