Chelsea fans disappointed by their team’s poor finishing as Liverpool’s Kelleher saves the day in Carabao Cup final

Chelsea fans expressed frustration with their team’s finishing after the Blues were unable to convert multiple chances in the Carabao Cup final.

Both sides had chances to take the lead at Wembley on Sunday, but the game ultimately went into extra-time goalless.

Raheem Sterling had the ball in the back of net in the first-half but his effort was subsequently ruled out after a review by VAR.

Following the interval, Jurgen Klopp’s injury-hit side looked to have secured an opener but they too saw an effort ruled out for offside, with the decision prompting an incensed reaction from Reds fans on social media.

Deputising for Alisson in the Reds’ goal, Irish goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher was repeatedly called upon as time was running out in the second-half, making a number of solid saves in the process.

Chelsea again had a golden opportunity to take the lead in stoppage time with Cole Palmer capitalising on a rebound to strike from close range.

Kelleher met the shot with his right boot and Chelsea again picked up the loose ball as a scramble ensued but 25-year-old made another save to take the game beyond the 90.

Chelsea supporters on social media lamented their side’s failure to snag a late winner despite having several chances to do so.

One wrote: ‘We should of put this sorry Liverpool team away a long time again. This is just embarrassing. Our finishing ability is damn near zero.’

Another agreed: ‘I don’t mind losing the game now. Chelsea players are amateurs. Poch did a great job no matter the result. We can’t finish’

A further fan pointed out that the stalemate between the two sides stretches back before Sunday’s clash: ‘We’re now at 330 minutes of football at Wembley between Liverpool and Chelsea without a goal.’

The impasse continued into extra-time with neither side able to fashion a goal in the first 15 minutes at Wembley.
