EFL Play-Off semi-final match postponed at the last minute due to a waterlogged pitch

Crawley have announced their League Two play-off semi-final against MK Dons has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch just hours before kick-off.

Heavy overnight rain and a forecast of more downpours on the day of the game led to local officials deeming the pitch at the Broadfield Stadium to be unplayable.

The decision was taken on Monday morning with kick-off scheduled for 3pm.

A club statement read: ‘Crawley Town Football Club is disappointed to announce that this afternoon’s Sky Bet League Two Play-Off Semi-Final first leg has been postponed due to a waterlogged surface at the Broadfield Stadium.

‘Details of a rearranged fixture will be released as soon as possible.’

The second leg of the tie was set to be held on Thursday 9 May at Stadium MK but this could also be pushed back to ensure sufficient recovery time for both sides.

Details on the first leg rearrangement have not yet been confirmed.

Around 700 MK Dons supporters were set to make the journey down to Crawley and many are said to have already set off before the game was called off.

More to follow.
