Frank Lampard goes wild after 97th-minute winner creates Coventry history as Championship club boost their promotion hopes

There were jubilant scenes for Coventry boss Frank Lampard following his side’s dramatic 3-2 win at home to Stoke.

Bobby Thomas scored the winner in the 97th minute as Coventry, who are in fifth place in the Championship, boosted their hopes of promotion to the Premier League.

Lampard has guided Coventry to nine wins in their last ten league games – an achievement that the club last managed in September 1954.

On that occasion Coventry were in the Division 3 south, which is a league below the Championship.

Therefore, Lampard has overseen Coventry’s greatest ever run of form, as reported by talkSPORT.

Coventry established a two-goal lead against Stoke with Victor Torp scoring twice.

However, Stoke managed to pull themselves level courtesy of a brace from Sam Gallagher.

Thomas then provided the decisive moment of the game as he scored in the closing stages.

Coventry have been on a remarkable run in the Championship, which has included them winning their last five games.

Lampard guided his team to victories against Stoke, Oxford, Preston, Sheffield Wednesday and QPR.

Although Coventry lost 2-0 to Leeds in February they had won their previous four games, overcoming Swansea, Watford, Blackburn and Bristol City.

In total, Lampard has won 12 of his 24 matches in charge in all competitions since he was appointed as Coventry boss in November last year.

The Chelsea and England legend commenced his managerial career at Derby before taking charge at Stamford Bridge.

Lampard then managed Everton before making a return to Chelsea as interim boss.

Coventry will be looking to continue their incredible form on Tuesday night when they face Lampard’s former club Derby away.

Following that, Coventry will be at home to Sunderland next Saturday.
