Manchester United chief John Murtough has taken over discussions for Mason Greenwood’s proposed move to Getafe.

Mail Sport revealed the Spanish club’s interest in the 21-year-old striker, who mutually agreed to leave Man United on August 21 following a following a six-month internal investigation.

There is hope an agreement can be reached on his wages, which is the key sticking point to a deal.

The side ranked 11th in La Liga are interested in bringing Greenwood to Spain on a short-term deal.

There is also interest from Serie A in the 21-year-old. Sources have indicated to Mail Sport that Lazio are among the clubs looking at that situation.

Olympiacos and Red Star Belgrade are also believed to be options for Greenwood.

Talks over a possible move to Italy for the Manchester United striker had taken place on Friday morning.

Significantly, it is understood there’s reservations at Lazio about the deal, leaving the move in the balance.

Greenwood hasn’t played competitive football since December 2021, after he was arrested in January 2022 on suspicion of a number of offences including attempted rape.

The 21-year-old was subsequently suspended by the club, however, in February the Crown Prosecution Service subsequently dropped the charges  after key witnesses withdrew and new material came to light.

United then concluded after their own investigation and concluded Greenwood did not commit the offences which he was charged with but decided that his future no longer remained at Old Trafford.

The club announced it would help Greenwood secure a move to continue his career, with a view to finding a move before Friday’s deadline, despite him still having two-years left on his current deal.

Turkish side Besiktas has been linked with a move for the forward, but have yet to make a concrete move for Greenwood.
