Manchester United hit with double injury blow as Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof sidelined for a minimum of one month

Manchester United have suffered yet another injury blow after centre-backs Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof were ruled out for at least a month.

It’s a particularly bitter blow for Martinez who only made his comeback from an eight-week lay-off with knee ligament damage in Saturday’s draw at Brentford, having also missed four months of the season following to foot surgery.

The talismanic Argentina defender, who came on as a 69th-minute substitute at the Gtech Community Stadium for only his 11th appearance of the season, pulled a calf muscle in training at Carrington on Tuesday.

Martinez replaced Lindelof when he sustained a hamstring injury against Brentford, and the Swede has also been ruled out for the rest of April after being assessed by United’s medical team.

Lindelof has already missed two months of the campaign following groin surgery in December.

It’s understood that both men are expected to play again this season with United facing at least three Premier League games in May, as well the possibility of another FA Cup final appearance if they can beat Coventry City in the semi-finals later this month.

However, it’s another serious setback for manager Erik ten Hag who has been beset by injuries throughout his second season in charge.

With Jonny Evans and Luke Shaw also sidelined, it leaves Ten Hag with just two fit centre-backs in Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire as United prepare for Thursday night’s trip to Chelsea and Sunday’s clash with Liverpool at Old Trafford.
