Mikel Arteta gives Bukayo Saka injury status ahead of Luton match following Man City draw

Mikel Arteta has given an update on Bukayo Saka’s condition after he limped out of Arsenal’s goalless draw at Manchester City on Sunday.

The winger hobbled off late on at the Etihad Stadium after struggling to get into the game for long periods.

It was his first match since he pulled out of the England squad that faced Brazil and Belgium last week, and raised further concerns about his fitness ahead of the title run-in.

Arteta revealed that Saka is not a major concern for Arsenal’s home clash with Luton on Wednesday night, but refused to confirm whether he will be ready to start.

‘He is fine. We haven’t trained, just recovery,’ he said at his pre-match press conference.

‘We have a short light session to prepare the game. We will see if he is in the best condition to start the game or not.’

Saka is now facing a race against time to prove his fitness, but he Gunners will hope to have him available after another fine season for the 22-year-old.

He has started all but one of Arsenal’s league matches this term, scoring 13 goals and registering eight assists in the top flight.

The England star has also been directly involved in seven goals in seven games for Arsenal in the Champions League to help his side through to the quarter-finals for the first time since 2010.
