Standard Liege are in talks to sign Isaac Hayden from Newcastle United. 

Hayden saw a move to Luton fall through this week and has also held talks with Sheffield Wednesday.

The Belgian outfit are currently 13th in the Belgian Pro League, having lost three and drawn two of their opening five games in 2023-24. 

The Englishman has not played a game for the Magpies since the 2021-2022 season – spending the last campaign on loan at Championship side Norwich City. 

He had been close to joining the Hatters, but after that deal fell through Luton have since secured the loan signing of Arsenal’s Albert Sambi Lokonga.

The Belgian midfielder spent last season at Selhurst Park with Crystal Palace, but will now turn out at Kenilworth Road for this campaign.  

Hayden came through the academy ranks at Arsenal before joining Hull City on loan and then Newcastle permanently in 2016. 

The midfielder has scored six goals in 151 appearances for Newcastle, winning the championship with the Magpies and gaining promotion to the Premier League.
