Newcastle concerned about Callum Wilson’s fitness for clash with Bournemouth after pectoral injury in Nottingham Forest victory.

Callum Wilson has suffered a pectoral injury and Newcastle are sweating on his fitness ahead of Saturday’s game at home to Bournemouth.

The striker, who was making his first start since before Christmas at Nottingham Forest at the weekend, got into a tangle with a defender late in the game and left the pitch using his shirt as a sling.

Eddie Howe said after the 3-2 win that Wilson had a problem with his arm.

Mail Sport now understands Wilson has an issue with his pec, the chest muscle that connects to the bones of the upper arm and shoulder.

Newcastle are hopeful they will be able to manage the pain and allow the 31-year-old to play against his former club this weekend. However, only at the end of the week will a decision be made.

Howe will be praying for good news given his only other striker, Alexander Isak, is currently nursing a groin problem and is also a doubt for the game.

Wilson’s season has been disrupted by injury and he has been restricted to eight league starts and eight substitute appearances from 24 games. He has seven goals and, when fit, he remains a top-class centre-forward with England aspirations.

But availability issues, coupled with a contract that expires in 2025, make it probable that this will be Wilson’s last campaign at St James’ Park. We understand a move abroad is likely and clubs in Saudi are monitoring his situation.
