Kyogo Furuhashi struck just before half-time to give Celtic the win in the first Old Firm derby of the season.
Kemar Roofe thought he had handed Rangers the lead only for his goal to be disallowed for a foul in the build-up.
Furuhashi scored his 50th goal for Celtic who were able to cling on and move to the top of the table.
