Thomas Tuchel has told his England players they must make every second of their time together count if they are to achieve their dream of winning the World Cup.
The new England boss roused his squad with an inspirational speech on Monday night as they joined up at St Georgeโs Park for the first time ahead of qualifiers against Albania and Latvia.
Tuchel reiterated his desire to build a โbrotherhoodโ among his players and told them he wanted to recreate the unity of the great NBA basketball sides who celebrated each otherโs success and picked their team-mates off the floor in tough times.
The former Chelsea manager reminded his squad they only have 60 days together and only 24 training sessions across six international windows until the World Cup beings in America next year when they must be ready to bring home the trophy for the first time since 1966.
โEveryone knows the goal is to win the World Cup,โ said James Trafford, one of four goalkeepers called up by Tuchel. โThat is the end goal but the process to get there youโve got to do it every day.
โYou have to go at it every day because youโre only together for a short period of time. Itโs not like a club where youโre together every day. You have to maximise every camp.

Tuchel delivered an inspirational speech to his Three Lions stars about their World Cup dream

‘He speaks really really well’: James Trafford revealed the details of Tuchel’s rousing speech
โWe’re together for short periods, there’s like six camps between there now and then. You have just got to do everything whilst you’re away, because it’s such a short time to put in the best position for the World Cup.
โHe told us just to do what everyone’s done to get to this point, just give it your all, be really good teammate and push each other.
โThomas speaks really, really well. He’s got massive achievements in the game and it’s good that everyone’s goals are aligned for next summer, and to try and achieve what everyone wants to achieve.โ
Burnley keeper Trafford, who has conceded just 11 goals and kept 26 clean sheets in the Championship this season, is no stranger to working under big names, having come through the ranks at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola before working with Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany at the Clarets.
โThey have an obsession over football,โ added Trafford. โThey don’t leave any stone unturned, they prepare you as well as you can so you when you go into the game you know more or less exactly what you’re going to face. Even if they do change, what to do when it changes.
โThey’re just so motivated, and they inspire you. When the speak, they’ve got such a way with how they speak that you just believe them so much and listen to everything they say.โ
