Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have reacted to Billy Sharp’s outburst following their FA Cup defeat to Sheffield United in February.

The then-Blades skipper savaged Wrexham’s players and told them to ‘shove that on your documentary’ in a tunnel spat that followed a 3-1 win.

Sharp was furious with the ‘disrepect’ shown by the National League outfit, accusing some players of taunting in the lead-up to the game and taking issue with a tweet posted by Wrexham’s official Twitter account which tagged potential fifth-round opponenets Tottenham.

In the second season of Disney+ show, Welcome to Wrexham, the co-owners finally had their say on the incident.

‘It was really interesting. It was psychology 1 on 1.’ He said. ‘It was like “oh we own you right now”. You’re a Championship league team, and second place in the Championship, you guys are amazing.

‘And this guy we just got under his skin. It was so, so wonderful to see that we got under that guy’s skin the way he did.’

‘We were living rent free in that motherfucker’s brain.’ McElhenney added.

Sharp followed his rant in the tunnel with a fiery post-match interview where he detailed his list of grievances against Wrexham and their players.

‘I wasn’t happy with the way they’ve been as a club before the game,’ he told ITV Sport. ‘Eyeing up Spurs. They’ve not even beaten us.

‘We’re an honest set of lads and we want to go as far as we can in this competition. If we get beaten in the next round, so be it. We’ll give it a right go.

‘I think they thought we were just going to roll over when we get back in it. I think the referee was helping them all night as well, I don’t think he gave me one foul all night.’

Sheffield United went on to reach the semi-final after impressive wins against Tottenham and Blackburn before their fairytale run was ended by eventual winners Manchester City.

Paul Heckingbottom’s side maintained their strong form to finish second and secure promotion to the Premier League while Wrexham returned to the Football League after besting Notts County in an exhilarating National League title race.
