Brentford’s players ran over to celebrate a goal with manager Thomas Frank following the death of his late father, Preben, in their 2-1 win over Bournemouth.

The Premier League stars hugged their beaming boss in a heartwarming moment following Bryan Mbeumo’s opening goal.

Mbeumo had given the Bees an 86th-minute lead, but after Dominic Solanke’s leveller shortly after it took a 95th-winner from Yoane Wissa to seal the three points in breathless fashion.

‘That’s quite special. My dad passed away yesterday, so that was special,’ Frank said.

‘Great win. These players are special and have fantastic character in many ways. I think they’ve showed that throughout the season in the tough moments.

‘I think the moment we could’ve done, these turnarounds and late winners, it just hasn’t been our year. Look at Liverpool, I admire them a lot, but it’s not normal to do what they’ve done.

‘They’ve done fantastic, but sometimes you just get all those things with you, and sometimes you don’t. These players are very, very special.’

Brentford also paid tribute to Frank’s dad in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

‘Thomas Frank was at the game today, despite the death of his father, Preben, on Friday morning. All our thoughts are with you and your family, Thomas,’ the club wrote.

Brentford have turned on the style in recent weeks to accelerate away from the relegation zone.

Between December 6 and April 13, the London outfit only won two of their 18 games and endured a nine-game winless shamble at the end of that spell.

However, they have scooped up 10 points in their last five games to make sure there will be at least a fourth season of Premier League football at the GTech Community Stadium.

They are 13 points clear of the drop zone, although they will record their worst points tally since being promoted to the top flight in 2021.
