The summer transfer deadline day saw a flurry of activity as teams raced against time to finalise their squads for the 2023-24 season.
The last day of the window is always filled with high drama, and Friday proved no exception.
And while Europe’s top five leagues are already in full swing, plenty of players were on the move across the continent in time for the deadline.
Deadline Day: Every confirmed transfer around Europe
Manchester United, Liverpool and Barcelona all caught the eye with a series of huge moves, with the three clubs among the most active on a very busy day of transfer action.
Amrabat bound for Old Trafford
United closed out their summer activity with a big move to bolster the midfield.
Sofyan Amrabat was finally announced as a Red after completing a last-gasp move from Fiorentina, and the Morocco international should be a huge acquisition alongside Casemiro in the engine room.
The Reds also swooped for a back-up goalkeeper, Altay Bayindir, while going the other way was Mason Greenwood who was shipped out on loan to Getafe.
Liverpool clinch midfield star
The middle of the pitch was also a big priority for United’s arch-rivals.
Ryan Gravenberch is headed to Anfield from Bayern Munich, providing much-needed quality for Jurgen Klopp’s team in a key position.
Chelsea still spending
Barely a day seemed to go by without Chelsea announcing a transfer of some sort, and deadline day proved no different.
The Blues swooped for Cole Palmer, with the Manchester City youngster setting them back £42.5 million.
He was their 12th signing of the summer, taking their total spending over the last three windows to over £900m.
Two Joaos are better than one
A dream came true at Camp Nou on Friday.
Joao Felix finally clinched his long-desired move to Barcelona, moving to the club from rivals Atletico Madrid on loan.
Curiously enough, the Portugal international also renewed his Atletico contract, raising questions over just what the side’s plans for the forward might be.
And if that were not enough, Barca also sealed the arrival of Joao Cancelo, who may prove to be a menace down the flank for Xavi’s attack-minded team.
Moving out, meanwhile, was Ansu Fati, whose loan switch to Brighton might turn out to be one of the savviest transfers of the entire window if the young star can rediscover his best form.
