Olympique de Marseille could look to sell Mason Greenwood after just one season, according to French media.

The disgraced former Manchester United wonderkid joined the Ligue 1 giants last summer and initially proved to be a resounding success. Greenwood surged to the top of the French top flight’s scoring charts and was hailed for his impact.

However, in recent weeks, the former England international has increasingly fallen out of favour with Marseille boss Roberto de Zerbi. The Italian has been critical of his application in training and his performances in matches and even relegated him to the bench.

The 23-year-old was merely a substitute in Marseille’s final two games prior to the international break, with De Zerbi publically expressing his disappointment with the attacker.

“I expect more from him,” the coach said. “He has to do more because what he is currently showing is not enough. If he wants to achieve his ambition of becoming a champion, he has to be more consistent, sacrifice more and be more determined.”

Marseille could sell Greenwood

To show his commitment, Greenwood arrived at training early after being snubbed by De Zerbi and this was reportedly appreciated by the demanding tactician.

However, La Provence reports that it has not yet been enough to win the Italian over again. In fact, the French outlet goes so far as to suggest that De Zerbi could axe Greenwood this summer unless he manages to fully win back his trust.

Greenwood, it is claimed, has essentially been given two months to get back to the level he performed at in the early parts of the season or risk being offloaded.

The latter would certainly be an attractive scenario to former club Man Utd. The Red Devils are entitled to a whopping 50 per cent of any profit Marseille generate from selling Greenwood, who set them back €26 million last year.
