Manchester United are set for a significant revamp under the stewardship of Dan Ashworth, who is currently on gardening leave from Newcastle, with Bruno Guimaraes being identified as a key target, a new report suggests.

Spanish reporter Eduardo Burgos of AS has stated that the club admire the Magpies star ahead of Ashworth’s move to being an executive at the club.

Having arrived at Newcastle six months before Guimaraes’ own tenure at St James’ Park, Ashworth swiftly became an ardent admirer of the midfielder’s talents. He is currently on leave as negotiations continue over compensation to facilitate his transition to Man Utd from Newcastle.

The Brazilian maestro has been instrumental for the Magpies since his arrival in the January transfer window of 2022. The Brazil international has notched three goals and provided seven assists thus far in the season, while he recently penned a deal that inserted a £100m release clause into his deal at St James’ Park.

Ashworth has reportedly given his resounding endorsement to pursue the Newcastle star when he eventually takes up his role at Old Trafford under Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the club’s new co-owner.

Though the club face stiff competition – FootballTransfers revealed that Manchester City were keen on bringing the midfielder to the Etihad.

Ahead of the reigning Premier League champions’ match with Newcastle on Saturday in the FA Cup, Pep Guardiola was asked about Guimaraes.

He replied via NUFCBlog: “He is an exceptional holding midfielder He is aggressive, with the ball or without the ball.

“At set-pieces, he’s aggressive and is a real, complete holding midfielder since being at Lyon and now at a club who want to grow up and up. I am sure he is part of the project for the next years. Definitely.”
