Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford was at it again on Saturday as the Red Devils struggled to a 1-1 draw against Brentford.

Erik ten Hag’s side might have come within seconds of the victory, yet their overall performance merited nothing. Brentford had 31 shots on goal and, incredibly, 70 touches in their opponents’ box.

The work ethic of the forward was questioned by Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp after the game.

“In the front part of the pitch, Hojlund is working on scraps all the time. Rashford is a player with so much talent, God-given talent, he’s got everything,” he said.

“He’s got an incredible physique, he can run, he can dribble, he can shoot, he got 30 goals last year… I look at the player right now and he looks like he’s not enjoying his football.

“For me it’s quite heart-breaking because they’ve got so much talent. I want to see more.”

So what can Rashford do to salvage his career?

Using the Career Advice tool of data analysis firm SciSports, there are two clear options for the 26-year-old.

To stay in the Premier League or move abroad?

There are two clubs that are better suited to Rashford than Man Utd based on the SciSports algorithm. This takes into account various factors ranging from potential development and playing time, to playing style and formation.

Inter Milan come out as the England attacker’s best option. The Nerazzurri score well across the board, with the exception of their formation, earning a Club Fit score of 77.

Staying in the Premier League, Rashford’s best option is Aston Villa. In Birmingham, the development opportunities are not as great as they would be with Inter, but this is traded off against the possibility of more playing time.

Club Club Fit Development Playing Time Playing Style Formation
Inter Milan 77 **** *** **** *
Aston Villa 76 *** **** **** *
Man Utd 74 ** **** ** ***
West Ham 72 * ***** **** ***
Barcelona 71 *** **** * ***

If Rashford really wants playing time, West Ham looks a good move. David Moyes’ side are only four points short of Man Utd in the Premier League table after all.

Real Madrid are also highly rated on the tool, but this does not take into account Kylian Mbappe’s impending switch to the Bernabeu. As such, Los Blancos can be discounted.

Both Inter and Aston Villa are rated as stronger teams than Man Utd by SciSports, so there is an argument that Rashford wouldn’t even be taking a step back in his career. Such a transfer may, in fact, benefit all parties.
