Mauricio Pochettino’s position as Chelsea manager has come under serious pressure in recent weeks.

Especially after the 5-0 defeat to Arsenal, it seemed a foregone conclusion that he would be sacked at the end of the season.

However, two excellent results in the past week have all but ensured that he will remain at the club for the foreseeable future.

On Thursday, The Blues beat Pochettino’s old club, Tottenham, in comfortable fashion (2-0).

Given the Argentine’s history with Spurs, which has never sat well with Chelsea fans, he would not have recovered from a loss in that game.

Then, on Sunday, Pochettino’s side followed up that result with an emphatic 5-0 win over West Ham.

The Hammers were dreadful, but Chelsea really put them to the sword with some scintillating attacking play.

Nicolas Jackson scored twice, while Noni Madueke, Conor Gallagher and Premier League Player of the Season candidate Cole Palmer scored one each.

Chelsea’s future under Mauricio Pochettino

Chelsea remain a long way away from where they want to be – winning major honours as they have done so regularly in the 21st century.

But there have been signs of improvement that Blues fans can get excited about ahead of the next campaign.

The likes of Jackson and Madueke have started to become more clinical in front of goal, while Gallagher and Moises Caicedo are having a bigger impact in the centre of midfield.

Indeed, Pochettino’s young squad is full of talent, but the biggest issue to address is their frustrating inconsistency.

They are capable of looking like world beaters one week, and relegation strugglers the next.

These players will undoubtedly benefit from the trials and tribulations of this season, while the additions of some experienced individuals would improve the balance of the squad.
