Federico Chiesa is torn about whether he should stay at Liverpool or head back to Serie A this summer.

The Italian was signed for just £12.5million from Juventus, including add-ons, but has hardly featured for the Reds.

While he is expected to be given more game time in the matches remaining this season, Chiesa is not sure where his future lies, according to Calciomercato.

The winger, 27, is aware that he is entering his prime years and another campaign with so little game time would be disastrous.

In that regard, he is reported to be weighing up a move back to Italy, with both Napoli and AC Milan interested.

His agent Fali Ramadani is expected on Merseyside in the next few days to take stock of the situation and plan next steps.

Chiesa has interest from Serie A, with Napoli and AC Milan both keen on him

He is also said to have a burning desire to prove himself at Anfield, having only shown in flashes and the few opportunities afforded to him that he can add something to the attack.

Mo Salah’s consistency and incredible season, combined with the options of Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo on the left, means there is little space for Chiesa.

He impressed against PSV in the Champions League and scored a consolation in the League Cup final but very rarely starts matches.

Fans have been desperate to see more of the exciting Italian but his involvement in the abject FA Cup exit against Plymouth is said to have counted against him in Arne Slot’s mind.

Perhaps the summer dealings will be important, particularly whether Diaz stays or goes.

As it stands, it appears that only injuries or a serious change of direction from Slot would lead to Chiesa becoming a key cog at the Premier League champions.

Given the relatively small outlay, it is likely that Liverpool would recoup most of the money spent if they did decide to sell Chiesa or if he pushed to leave for a fresh challenge in the coming months.
