Mikel Arteta gives BIZARRE reason for failure to win Premier League and lack of trophies at Arsenal, ahead of crucial PSG clash

Mikel Arteta has raised eyebrows by giving a bizarre explanation about Arsenal missing out on winning trophies.

The Gunners boss, speaking ahead of the Champions League semi-final second leg against PSG, believes it is all about ‘being in the right moment in the right place’.

Liverpool have stormed to the Premier League title this term and are currently a whopping 15 points clear of Arsenal.

But Arteta said Arsenal’s points total of the last two seasons would have given them two Premier Leagues (if they’d managed to repeat it in other campaigns).

‘Winning trophies is about being in the right moment in the right place,’ he said.

‘Liverpool have won the title with less points than we had in the last two seasons. With the points of the last two seasons, we have two Premier Leagues.

Arsenal head into the second leg against PSG on the back of defeat by Bournemouth

‘So you have to be in the right moment in the right place. Hopefully here we are in the right moment in the right place in Paris tomorrow to earn the right to be in the final.’

Arsenal have suffered with a number of injuries but also dropped a huge number of points from winning positions, struggled at defending set-pieces and drawn 13 league matches so far.

Their last chance at silverware this season comes in the Champions League but a 1-0 defeat in the first leg in a flat Emirates atmosphere means they have it all to do on Wednesday night.

Captain Martin Odegaard plus defensive duo Jurrien Timber and Riccardo Calafiori all took part in the session at London Colney in a fitness boost for Arteta. Ousmane Dembele is also expected to be fit to start for the Ligue 1 champions.

Arteta named an almost full strength line up in a 2-1 defeat by Bournemouth at the weekend and urged his players to use the rage of that loss to fuel them against PSG.

‘We certainly wanted to create a really good vibe, a positive result would really help us to build what we wanted towards Wednesday,” he said.

‘So what we have created now is a lot of rage, anger, frustration and a bad feeling in the tummy.

‘So make sure that we use that for Wednesday to have a massive performance in Paris, win the game and be in the final.’
