The Arizona Cardinals announced a third trade on Thursday, in addition to the deals sending safety Isaiah Simmons to the New York Giants and tackle Josh Jones to the Houston Texans.
The newest deal was announced by the team Thursday afternoon. The Cardinals traded a 2024 fifth-round pick (it was not stated which of the three fifth-round selections they had before the trade) to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for quarterback Josh Dobbs and a 2024 seventh-round pick.
Dobbs has ties to the Cardinals. He was with the Browns last April to last November. Cardinals offensive coordinator Drew Petzing was his position coach.
After Dobbs was waived, he was signed by the Tennessee Titans, where general manager Monti Ossenfort worked in the front office.
Dobbs has been in the league since 2017 when he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the fourth round.
He has played in eight NFL games.
He started two games for the Titans last season, his only two career starts. The Titans lost both of those games and he completed 58.8% of his passes for 411 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.
What remains to be seen is what role he will have and what his acquisition means.
Will he start in Week 1 over Colt McCoy? Will he be the backup to McCoy or will he be the third quarterback on the roster, assuming Kyler Murray begins the season on PUP.
Dobbs is scheduled to make $1.5 million in 2023.
