The Dallas Cowboys season has gone from bad to worse with the news of starting quarterback Dak Prescott likely being shut down for the year to undergo surgery on his hamstring.
Prescott exited the game against the Atlanta Falcons last weekend with the injury and had already been placed on injured reserve, meaning he could not play for the next four weeks.
Now, the team’s 2024 season is likely in the hands of Cooper Rush because of Prescott’s absence, per ESPN.
The Cowboys have had a disappointing start to the season at 3-5, 3.5 games behind their archrivals, the Washington Commanders, for first place in the NFC East.
Dallas plays another divisional foe, the Philadelphia Eagles, on Sunday.

The Cowboys’ medical team have determined that Prescott’s injury needs surgery and four months to heal. The team is seeking a second opinion from a specialist.
If the specialist agrees with the team, Prescott’s season will be over.
Prescott was seen distraught on the sideline at the end of the loss to Atlanta, saying to a teammate ‘We f***ing suck.’
That is not the most inspiring message coming from the locker-room leader at the halfway point of the regular season.
As Rush takes over, things do not look much better coming down the line for Dallas either, as it likely will not be favored in any of its next three games.
Between now and the Cowboys’ Thanksgiving Day clash with the New York Giants, they will play the Eagles, Texans, and Commanders, all of whom are currently in the projected playoff fields in their conferences.
