Ex-Detroit Lions star Cam Sutton charged with misdemeanor after turning himself in to police; requests privacy for family post-release

Ex-Lions star Cam Sutton has been charged with a single misdemeanor after turning himself in on an arrest warrant for domestic battery by strangulation.

According his attorneys, Sutton – who had avoided arrest for over three weeks – was released on his own recognizance on Monday.

Sutton and the mother of his child have ‘request[ed] privacy’, according to a statement obtained by Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz.

‘… They view this as a family matter and wish to resolve it as a family,’ the statement ends.

On Sunday night, the former Lions cornerback turned himself into police, with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office releasing video of Sutton going into custody in handcuffs at Oreint Road Jail.

Police had been looking for him since March 7.
