Jaxon Smith-Njigba's damning quote about Shane Waldron resurfaces after his firing by Chicago Bears

A quote made by Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba back in February has resurfaced after the Chicago Bears fired offensive coordinator Shane Waldron on Tuesday.

Waldron was the Seahawks offensive coordinator for three years before making the move to Chicago this offseason to hold the same position.

Smith-Njigba was drafted by Seattle last year, meaning he shared a locker room with Waldron for only one season.

Yet, it seems Waldron did not leave an extraordinary impression. When asked nine months ago about what Bears fans could expect from Waldron, Smith-Njigba relayed a simple message.

‘Um, this is live? I’m playing. Good luck to y’all, he’s a great person,’ Smith-Njigba said, taking a several-second pause to come up with that answer.

The Bears have not won a game in nearly a month and have scored a combined 27 points in their last three contests.

Things reached an all-time low for the Chicago offense on Sunday, when it scored three points at home against one of the worst teams in the league, the New England Patriots.

That’s a startling fact with how much talent the Bears have on offense in Caleb Williams, Keenan Allen, DJ Moore, Rome Odunze, and D’Andre Swift.

With the Bears’ playoff hopes now likely dashed, Waldron’s removal continues the house-cleaning process for the Bears, as he is the eighth member of Matt Eberflus’ staff to move on from the team in the last 14 months.

The Seahawks did not win a playoff game in the three seasons Waldron was their offensive coordinator.

A lack of a strong endorsement from Smith-Njigba shows Chicago may have some buyer’s remorse for longer than the last month.
