Jets’ Williams Reacts to Rodgers’ 20th Season: ‘That’s Crazy’

Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams learned just how many years Aaron Rodgers has been playing for on Wednesday, and had a hilarious reaction.

Rodgers, 40, is entering his 20th year in the NFL after debuting for the Packers in 2005.

And when a reporter put it to Williams that Rodgers was about to complete two decades of football service, the young pass-rusher couldn’t believe it.

‘Aaron, 20 years in the NFL? Man,’ he said, as laughs emendated from the Jets’ press room.

‘Ain’t our running back, the #0 [rookie Braelon Allen] 20 years old? So [Rodgers] been in the NFL long as [Allen] been alive. That’s crazy huh. I gotta joke with him about that.’

Allen, born on January 20, 2004, was a fourth-round selection in this year’s draft by the Jets out of Wisconsin.

Rodgers, meanwhile, took his first NFL snap less than two years later on October 9, 2005.

The future Hall of Fame quarterback of course has an impressive resume filled with 10 Pro Bowl appearances, four MVP awards and one Super Bowl ring with the Packers.

But he’s achieved nothing with the Jets to date after injuring his Achilles just four plays into his New York debut, forcing him to miss the rest of the season.

Speaking to reporters last week after the Jets’ second OTA, he said he doesn’t want to ‘go out as a bum.’

‘I expect to play at a high level,’ he said. ‘I expect us to be productive and competitive and all that stuff to take care of itself.’

‘If I don’t do what I know I’m capable of doing, we’re all probably going to be out of here, so… I like that kind of pressure, though.’

Rodgers also shared a positive update regarding his recovery from rupturing his Achilles.

‘I feel really good,’ he said. ‘It’s just about the mental part. These practices have been nice the last couple of days, just to feel what it’s like to be out there, moving around and not be thinking about it and see how I respond the next day.

‘This is the last part. The strength is good, the movement’s good. Just the confidence to do everything.’

Rodgers and the Jets kick off their season on September 9 at the 49ers.
