Russell Wilson seemingly offered a cryptic response to Friday’s news that his former team Pittsburgh Steelers were hosting Aaron Rodgers for a visit.
Wilson led the Steelers to the playoffs last season before they lost to the Baltimore Ravens but is now a free agent with his contract expired.ย
The organization in Pittsburgh are considering a move to sign Rodgers, 41, after the quarterback was cut by the New York Jets and if they were to sign him, it would close the door on Wilson’s chances of a return to Pittsburgh.
After news broke of Rodgers’ visit, Wilson posted on X: ‘Relentless Confidence. Donโt ever stop believing in you!’
The 36-year-old Wilson often posts motivational phrases on social media but the timing of Friday’s post was curious given the Rodgers news.
For Rodgers, one option for his future was seemingly ended earlier in the week when it emerged that the Minnesota Vikings will start the season with JJ McCarthy as their quarterback.

Rodgers, 41, could be in line to take over from Wilson as quarterback for the Steelersย
McCarthy missed last season with a knee injury and was replaced by Sam Darnold, who then entered free agency before signing a three-year deal with Seattle Seahawks – Wilson’s old team.
If the Steelers sign Rodgers, it would leave some less inspiring options for Wilson’s next move.
The New York Giants, Cleveland Browns and Tennessee Titans all have vacancies at signal caller but the fact they hold the top three picks of this year’s NFL Draft shows how far they have to go to become a postseason force.
Wilson impressed with the Steelers last year. After missing the first six games with a calf issue, he replaced Justin Fields and led his team to the postseason.
And while there are signs that the Steelers are opting for Rodgers, it might not be the most popular move in the Steelers locker room.ย
Earlier this week, Steelers star Cam Heyward told Rodgers to hurry up and make a decision about his new team.
Speaking on his own podcast, the defensive tackle said: ‘I ainโt doing that darkness retreat. I donโt need any of that c**p.
‘Either you want to be a Pittsburgh Steeler or you donโt. Thatโs simple, thatโs the pitch.ย

‘If you want me to recruit, thatโs the recruiting pitch. Pittsburgh Steelers – if you want to be part of it, so be it. If you donโt, no skin off my back.’
In February, DeShon Elliott commented on reports on social media that the Steelers were considering Rodgers with the remark: ‘Leave his a** at the retirement home.’ย
