Andy Murray’s Wimbledon participation continues to hang in the balance as he battles a fresh injury.

The former world No 1 and two-time winner at the event had seemed set to miss out on competing in the 2024 edition following surgery on a spinal cyst, but hope is not yet lost.

Murray has admitted that it is ‘more likely that I’m not able to play singles’ at Wimbledon, but vowed that he is ‘f***ing doing rehab 24/7 to try to give myself that opportunity to play there again’ one last time.

While he awaits that decision, he also revealed his ‘complicated’ plan to retire after the Olympics with his career undoubtedly in its twilight years.

But whatever he decided, the Brit has a strong support network around him. Mail Sport details who is in the Brit’s corner, from his family to his coaches.

Wife – Kim Sears

Murray and Sears began dating in 2005 after meeting at the US Open. Sears, currently 36, is the daughter of former tennis player and coach Nigel Sears.

Following a long relationship, the pair got engaged in November 2014 and married in April 2015 in Murray’s home town of Dunblane in Scotland.

The couple live togehter in Leatherhead, having previosuly lived in Surrey, and now have four children together – Sophia, Edie, Teddie and Lola – the youngest born in March 2021.

Murray has, in the past, acknowledged that he was ‘lucky’ that Sears was used to him being away due to her father being away a lot for tennis as she was growing up. ‘She obviously has a good understanding of what it is that I’m doing,’ he told The New York Times in 2015.

Though she can regularly been seen in the stands at Murray’s matches now, she did not accompany him to a match until 2006, with the Scot saying he was ‘maybe a little bit more relaxed’ with her present.

She is a painter, too, formerly sharing portraits of animals and flowers on a website called ‘Brushes and Paws’.

Mum – Judy Murray

Murray’s mum, Judy, gave up the chance of playing tennis professionally early doors but went into coaching and has played a part in the careers of a number of top names.

She was the inital coach of both Andy and Jamie Murray until they turned professional, helping trigger Andy’s interest in tennis by taking him to local tennis courts at the age of three.

The 64-year-old has let the British Fed Cup team as captain in the past, and received an OBE for services to tennis, women in sport and charity in 2017.

She has gone onto make a number of media appaearances and appear as a cleebrity on various television shows, such as Master Chef, The Chase and Strictly Come Dancing.

She divorced Andy’s dad, William Murray, in 2005.

Dad – William Murray

Murray’s father, William, has kept a low profile throughout his son’s career, but played a huge hand in it.

When he and Judy divorced, the Murray brothers lived with William. In 2019, Jamie revealed that their ‘quiet’ father has been just as crucial to their tennis success as Judy.

Speaking on Lorraine, Jamie said that Judy often got all the headlines because she’s ‘in the public eye’ but William was the one who would also ‘ferry’ the duo to tournaments and wash and iron their kit when they were younger.

‘Mum’s in the public eye. My Dad, he was there for us, raised us as much as my mum,’ he said. ‘We lived with him when my parents separated when we were younger.

‘He did a lot of the ferrying around to tournaments, all the washing and ironing – all the fun stuff I’m sure he enjoyed. He’s in the background but he’s a great dad to us.’

He is now with to Sam Watson, marrying Andy’s step mother in 2016.

Brother – Jamie Murray

Jamie is the older brother of Andy and also plays professionally, but hasn’t quite been as successful in his career – in terms of singles, at least.

When it comes to doubles, however, he is a seven-time Grand Slam champion, succeeding five times in mixed doubles competition and twice in men’s doubles. Those titles include two Wimbledon titles.

Off-the-court, Jamie is married to Colombian Alejandra Gutierrez, tying the knot in 2010, with Andy best man. He and Gutierez have one daughter together – Ava – born in 2022.

The Murray brothers are scheduled to take on Australian duo John Peers – a former partner of Jamie – and Rinky Hijikata in the first round of the men’s doubles at Wimbledon on Wednesday. Whether that happens is another matter.

The brothers have played together in the past, including at the 2015 David Cup win, but they have never teamed up at Wimbledon.

Coach – Jonny O’Mara

Murray had worked with Ivan Lendl for a third time until November last year, when he decided to split on the back of a difficult season.

Jonny O’Mara is now the coached tasked with steering his career. He has worked alongside Mark Hilton and Matt Little, and has shown off snaps of Murray training on his social media accounts.

He is the latest in a long list of coaches in Murray’s career which had included Miles Maclagan, Amelie Mauresmo and Jamie Delgado.

O’Mara, who is still a player himself, said he was ‘privileged to join Murray’s team half-way through last year and was also by his side during 2023’s edition of Wimbledon.
