Oct. 17—ROGERS — The New London-Spicer girls tennis team advanced Amyra Gamez in singles and Delaney Hanson and Madisyn Claseman in doubles to the state Class A tournament next week.
Gamez finished second in the Section 6A singles competition at the Rogers Tennis Club. She lost to Osakis’ Leah Maddock in the championship, 6-1, 6-1.
Litchfield’s doubles team of Isla Dille and Olivia Olson won the 6A title by beating Hanson and Claseman 6-1, 6-4.
NLS is headed to the state Class A team tournament as well. It starts next Tuesday at Reed-Sweatt Family Tennis Center in Minneapolis. The individual tournament begins Thursday, Oct. 26.
Montevideo’s Brooke Lindeman in singles and Benson/Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg’s Elle Kletscher and Elise Duncan and Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boy’s Kayla Jahn and Hannah Oie are all headed to state.
All involved placed in the top two in the Section 3A tournament at the Huether Family Match Pointe Tennis Club in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Lindeman took true second. After losing to Catherine Kehoe of Morris/Chokio-Alberta/West Central Area 6-4, 6-1 in the championship, Lindeman played MACCRAY’s Tayte Nokleby in a true-second match. Lindeman beat Nokleby 6-1, 6-1. Nokleby beat teammate Greta Meyer in the third-place match, 6-1, 6-2.
In doubles, Kletscher and Duncan won the doubles title by defeating Ashley Koehl and Nora Meek of MACA/WCA in the championship.
Jahn and Oie then earned a true-second title to advance by beating Koehl and Meek 6-2, 6-2.
Jahn and Oie had won the third-place match by defeating Montevideo’s Gwyn Smiens/Lily Eisenlohr 6-4, 5-7, 6-4.
The individual state Class A tournament begins Thursday, Oct. 26 at the Reed-Sweatt Family Tennis Center in Minneapolis.
