STURGIS — The Sturgis tennis team might only be 10-6 this season, but it’s still been a big success to date.
Three straight victories, plus a pending match on Thursday, has the Trojans rolling. Those dual wins have come over Otsego (8-0), Coldwater (8-0) and Vicksburg 6-2.
On Wednesday, the Trojans took care of visiting Three Rivers, beating the Wildcats 8-0. Sturgis is now 4-0 in Wolverine Conference action to date.
Sturgis remains ranked 10th overall in the latest Michigan High School Tennis Coaches Association poll for Division 3 as well.
All eight matches against Three Rivers finished in straight sets.
Sturgis soccer keeps unbeaten record alive
Singles play saw George Ebert beat Jack Miller 6-1, 6-0 at the top spot. In No. 2 singles play, Grady Miller won 6-1, 6-0 as well over his opponent, Jay Nowak.
Christian Perry’s match at No. 3 singles saw him win 6-1, 6-1 over Cam McColley. Preston Gump made the clean sweep in singles play stand up with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Brayden Williams at No. 4 singles.
In doubles play, Sturgis got a strong 6-0, 6-2 victory from Luke Frost and Drake Harker over Justin McDonald and Theo Herrmann at first dubs. The No. 2 doubles team of George Bucklin and Carter Oswald beat Alex Novak and Parker Bingaman with a score of 6-2 and 6-2.
Sturgis golf finishes sixth at invitational
Ian Golden and Wyatt Miller won over Alex and Nick Karabetsos 6-3, 6-2 in No. 3 doubles action. The fourth doubles team of Tristan Clark and Brady Currier swept Cooper Barkby and Dominik Brown 6-1, 6-3.
The victory over Vicksburg on Monday saw the Trojans won three matches in singles and doubles action.
Ebert beat Jordan Diekman 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 singles; Miller beat Gabriel Ryder 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Perry won 6-1, 6-1 over Colin Schramer. Gump was upended at No. 4 singles 6-4, 6-4 by Maddox Rosalin.
In doubles action, the top team of Frost and Harker won their match 6-0 and 6-2. The Bucklin-Oswald team at No. 2 doubles got some work in, but beat Sawyer Kite and Luke Wilson 6-3 and 7-5. Golden and Wyatt Miller won comfortably at No. 3 doubles 6-1, 6-0.
Reese Brush and West Post won over Sturgis’ No. 4 doubles team of Clark and Currier at 6-1, 6-3.
