Arne Slot warns Liverpool about Wolves and happy to fly under the radar

Arne Slot urged Liverpool fans not to take three points for granted at bottom club Wolves Saturday as the Premier League’s financial dominance means every opponent is a threat.

Liverpool have a 100 per cent winning record this season against teams in the bottom half – Ipswich, Brentford, Manchester United and Bournemouth – but the former Feyenoord manager isn’t taking the trip to Molineux lightly.

‘Every single Premier League game demands a lot. That’s why you see more rotation here than any other league,’ he said.

‘Every team we face has players who cost £40m-£50m and have quality so there are no easy games.

‘Wolves have been unlucky already playing Arsenal, Newcastle, Chelsea and Aston Villa. The best way to judge the table is after 19 games.

‘My final game in the Eredivisie, we played a newly promoted club and they didn’t get close to our goal. A duel with their defenders is not like a duel with Virgil van Dijk.

‘Every Premier League team is able to buy players. You can never feel that the game is yours. ‘Wolves play much better football than the table shows.’

Slot is happy Liverpool’s title prospects are going under the radar despite their terrific start post-Jurgen Klopp.

The Merseysiders sit second, a point behind Manchester City yet outside discussion is all about a head-to-head between Pep Guardiola’s men and Arsenal.

And Slot isn’t sensitive about his side being overlooked.

Slot has an embarrassment of riches up front with super six Mo Salah, Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, Federico Chiesa and Darwin Nunez competing for three spots but the Dutchman says wins in their opening Champions League and Carabao Cup games has helped him juggle.

‘The positive thing with us having so many games is that they will all play a lot,’ added Slot.

‘They understand they won’t play every game but they have to stay sharp. As long as they accept the situation, and that is what they are doing, it is positive.

‘They have good numbers and I see them smile a lot. I have to keep them happy in what they are doing.

‘I am really happy with the squad I inherited from Jurgen Klopp, not only the quality but maybe even more importantly the culture.

All bar Chiesa, who made his first start in the 5-1 midweek cup win against West Ham, have already been on target and Diaz in particular has started brightly with five goals from his six appearances.

Goalkeeper Alisson has resumed training after a hamstring injury and could return.
