Arsenal name Wilshere’s replacement as legend leaves for Norwich

Jack Wilshere has left his Under-18s post at Arsenal to join Norwich City, it has been confirmed.

The Gunners’ former midfielder rejoined the club in 2022 and led the side to the FA Youth Cup final. He will now join up as the first-team coach of Norwich, of the Championship.

But Arsenal have already stated who will be taking over his duties. The club posted on X, formerly known as Twitter: “We are delighted to announce that Adam Birchall has become our Under-18s head coach following Jack Wilshere’s departure. Wishing you the best of luck in your new role, Adam.”

In 2022, Birchall was named as the under-17s head coach having previously been with the age group below. The 39-year-old has now been promoted to the top coaching job at the academy.

Wilshere made 197 senior appearances for the club before retiring. There had been reports that he would be leaving his role but now Arsenal have confirmed the news.

He said via the club’s official website: “I’ve loved every minute of my time as Under-18s head coach and would like to thank Edu, Per, Mikel, my colleagues in the academy and everyone at the club for their fantastic support during my time in the role.

“As everyone knows, Arsenal is and always will be part of who I am, and the club means so much to me. However, this opportunity has come at the right time to progress my coaching career within a first-team environment.
