Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) emerged as emphatic champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, dismantling Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the final at the M.A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday. This comprehensive victory marked their third IPL title and went down as the most lopsided final in IPL history.

KKR’s dominance on full display

KKR displayed their absolute supremacy, chasing down a meagre 113-run target (the lowest ever in an IPL final) with a staggering 8 wickets and 57 balls to spare. This clinical performance capped off a season where they were arguably the most consistent team, finishing with just three losses throughout the entire tournament.

Meanwhile, SRH, considered the most entertaining team in the IPL, simply couldn’t match the KKR juggernaut. This defeat marked their third loss to the Knight Riders this season, having fallen to them twice in the league stage and once in the playoffs.

Gautam Gambhir’s midas touch

KKR’s resurgence can be partly attributed to the return of Gautam Gambhir, their two-time championship-winning captain, who rejoined the franchise as a mentor. His impact was immediate, instilling an aggressive playing style and a winning mentality within the team. Gambhir’s leadership also focused on giving players clear roles and bringing out their best potential.
