Twitter explodes as Obed McCoy and Johnson Charles steal the show in West Indies’ T20I clean sweep against South Africa

In a stunning display of batting prowess, West Indies clinched a series sweep against South Africa, thanks to sensational performances by Obed McCoy and Johnson Charles. Despite South Africa setting a challenging target of 163/7, West Indies chased it down with ease, reaching 165/2 in just 13.5 overs and achieved a victory in the third game to register a clean sweep.

Obey McCoy’s great bowling display

South Africa won the toss and opted to bat first. The opening pair of Quinton de Kock and Reeza Hendricks made a steady start but faced early setbacks with the fall of wickets. Despite some resilient batting from Rassie van der Dussen and Wiaan Mulder, the South African innings lacked substantial partnerships. Van der Dussen’s aggressive fifty and Mulder’s calculated innings propelled the team to a competitive total of 163/7 in their allotted 20 overs. However, it was McCoy’s exceptional bowling display, claiming three crucial wickets, that kept South Africa from reaching a more formidable score.

Johnson Charles guides the West Indies to victory

Chasing a target of 164 runs, the West Indies got off to a blazing start, courtesy of explosive batting from Brandon King and Charles. The duo unleashed an onslaught of boundaries and sixes, putting the South African bowlers under immense pressure. Charles’ scintillating 69 and King’s aggressive 44 laid the foundation for the West Indies’ successful chase. Despite a couple of wickets falling towards the end, Kyle Mayers‘ composed innings ensured victory for the West Indies with ample overs to spare.

South Africa struggled to contain the West Indian batters as Anrich Nortje and Bjorn Fortuin failed to make breakthroughs, while Gerald Coetzee and Nqabayomzi Peter managed to pick up crucial wickets. Nevertheless, the bowlers were unable to stem the flow of runs, allowing the West Indies to chase down the target comfortably.
