Leeds 1-2 Southampton: Daniel Farke’s side will have to go through the play-offs if they are to return to the Premier League at the first attempt after finishing third in the Championship.
The visitors drew first blood at Elland Road as Adam Armstrong fired them in front on 18 minutes.
Leeds responded well to going behind however, and just moments later Joel Piroe levelled to keep his side’s hopes of automatic promotion alive.
Southampton were clinical in front of goal and before the half-time whistle Russell Martin’s side had restored their lead courtesy of a goal from Will Smallbone.
