Vincent Kompany is the surprise successor to Thomas Tuchel as Bayern Munich head coach, but the former Manchester City captain can now lean on his former club for his first signing.
Kompany’s Burnley were relegated from the Premier League in the season just gone after picking up just five wins from the 38 games.
But the former City centre-back had impressed with their promotion from the Championship the previous season, has Pep Guardiola’s public backing, and is also fluent in German – an advantage in the Bayern dressing room.

There is a transfer committee at the German record champions, but Kompany is allowed to express wishes and he has reportedly done so in regards to his former City teammate John Stones.

Stones ‘a priority for Kompany’
“John Stones, Manchester City’s English centre-back, is a priority for Kompany,” report Fichajes. “They shared a dressing room in Manchester, which has allowed them to develop a good professional relationship.
“…His ability to play in both central defence and defensive midfield makes him a versatile and very valuable piece for Kompany’s new project.”

The report did not outline how much Bayern might pay City for Stones, but the defender is valued at €37.6m by FootballTransfers’ in-house algorithm.
In Kim Min-Jae, Matthijs de Ligt, Dayot Upamecano and Eric Dier, Bayern already have four senior centre-backs on their books. But Tuchel seemed unable to settle on his preferred pairing last season, and now one or more of them are likely to make way.
The report also outlined RB Leipzig’s Spanish midfield metronome Dani Olmo and his international teammate Nico Williams, of Athletic Bilbao, as potential targets for Bayern this summer.
As well as Dier, Stones would have England teammate Harry Kane for company at the Allianz Arena, while Jamal Musiala grew up in London even if he now plays for Germany.
