Crystal Palace could flip Adam Wharton for a profit after just six months, according to a report.
The 20-year-old joined the Eagles from Blackburn Rovers in January in a deal worth a little over €21 million upfront and has, in conjunction with new coach Oliver Glasner, proved transformative.
Having featured in every game since his arrival, Wharton has been mightily impressive even if he does occasionally go under the radar by virtue of his position and role in the team as more of a ball-winner rather than a creator. As previously explained by FootballTransfers, the English youngster has a similar upside to Man Utd wonderkid Kobbie Mainoo.
Wharton’s impact has, of course, also been noticed elsewhere. Prior to his arrival, all of the Premier League’s big hitters were keeping tabs on him and the admiration persists. Indeed, it is now being claimed that the midfielder could be moved on just six months after arriving at Selhurst Park.
Palace to sell Wharton?
According to TBR Football, the likes of Liverpool and Man Utd are still circling for Wharton and could launch a summer offensive. It is asserted that, though Crystal Palace have publically denied that the youngster could be for sale, the feeling behind the scenes is different.
Club chief Steve Parish would supposedly ‘find it hard’ to resist the prospect of the Eagles potentially doubling their money on Wharton this summer. Newcastle, Tottenham, Bayern Munich, Juventus and Borussia Dortmund are also named as admirers.
It must be said, though, that it seems odd for Parish to simply be content with doubling his money in light of the news that he has slapped a €100 million price tag on coach Glasner to fend off interest from Bayern. Given Wharton’s significant potential, an asking price in the region of €50m seems fairly low.
